The Song Dogs were a sensation in New Orleans in the late 1980s.
Seven seasoned musicians formed a "switched-on Americana" supergroup that carved out a niche in a crowded musical marketplace, creating a stir that generated national interest.
In 2016, the band reunited for a few shows. This proved to be so much fun -- and so popular with the band's audience -- that the Dogs decided to record a new album.
"Light in the Distance" was originally slated for release in April 2020, but was sidelined by the pandemic. Then the band lost guitarist, singer, songwriter and founding member Bruce MacDonald to chronic illness in 2022.
In April 2023, the Song Dogs were at long last able to release and celebrate "Light in the Distance" with a series of live performances at French Quarter Fest, NO Jazz Museum and Chickie Wah Wah.
Staying true to the NOLA tradition of musical families carrying
on through the generations, the band was joined by Alex MacDonald, singing his father's leads and adding his prize-winning washboard chops. The Song Dogs Reboot: an enduring story of love and persistence... and that light in the distance.
We'll send you the inside skinny about upcoming shows, albums, and events!
